To request Judges from the NYSCJA State Assignor: Click Here for the NYSCJA Assignor Request Form only after completing the following steps. These steps only apply if you have a local assignor, NOT a BOCES or similar program for assignments controlled by your Section office. Event Producers/Schools hosting competitions should first send their request to you as the local assignor. Many sections have a local assignor and some use BOCES or another program to assign their judges.
Per Todd Nelson, Assistant Director, NYSPHSAA, scholastic Cheerleading competitions in New York State are not allowed to use non-certified judges. This is stated in the contract between NYSPHSAA and NYSCJA and applies to all sports. All judges need to be NY State certified judges, and members of the NYSCJA. We need to continue following the correct procedures when we do not have enough judges. First, reaching out to the State Assignor and asking for the judges that are needed. If we don’t have any available, we can run a competition with a minimum of 3 judges, one per scoresheet. If non-certified judges are used, that competition would not count toward the minimum number of competitions to qualify for States.
- The local assignor will assign local judges to the event.
- If the local assignor is unable to fill all judging needs, the local assignor will fill out the NYSCJA Assignor Request Form.
- This should be done at least three weeks before the event.
- The NYSCJA State Assignor (SA) will send out a request to fill the judging needs of the competition to all officials’ associations across the State.
- The SA will state in the email request for officials that there will be a 2 day window for interested parties to email the SA stating that they would like to work the competition.
- After the deadline, the SA will email the President and the local assignor of the requesting Section (if there is a BOCES assignor or other, the SA will cc the local association’s VP or Secretary) with the names of any official(s) interested.
- The President/ocal assignor will email their choice(s) back to the SA within 24 hours.
- The SA will notify the chosen judges, confirming their selection, and will cc the President and local assignor.
